The GCISD Walk of Honor Committee is proud to announce the 2024 honorees of the GCISD Walk of Honor. These two individuals have served the District with honor, distinction, and service and will be honored permanently with plaques at Mustang Panther Stadium.


Carolyn Frank

Carolyn Frank was born in Grapevine in 1925 and graduated from GHS in 1943. Her great- grandfather was the first mayor of Grapevine, and her grandfather was a state representative. Carolyn and her mother, Starr Frank, taught piano, dance and voice lessons from their home for many years. Carolyn closed her dance studio in 1963 and became administrative assistant to the principal at GHS where she remained until her death 29 years later. She served as choreographer for the many musicals and variety shows produced at GHS during her tenure there. She was the recipient of the first GCISD Paraprofessional of the Year award in 1990 and the award was named in her honor after her death. The 1968 GHS annual was dedicated to her, and she was elected football sweetheart in 1983. As a single woman with no children of her own, the students and staf became the focus of her life and she quietly and confidentially went about helping others-dispensing advice, encouraging and mentoring, helping financially with lunch money and uniform expenses – all with her unique sense of humor and personality. According to former staff, she was the glue that held the high school together during a lengthy period of revolving principals at GHS. She was the one constant at GHS during times of great growth and change. In the words of a former faculty member \”her integrity was a reminder to all of the high calling of educator, no matter the level\”


Kay Lynn Renfro

Following graduation from Texas Tech University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree with certifications for English and PE, Kay Lynn joined GCISD in 1985 as an English teacher and Fillies Director. She remained in that position until her retirement in 2019. Under her direction the GHS Fillies have been the featured performers for the World Cup Soccer Tournament, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Cowboys, FC Dallas Soccer, and others. They were the only US team invited to perform in the St. Patrick\’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland. Fillies\’ officers have performed at the Macy\’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 30 times. They have been national champions in at least one routine every year since 1995. Kay Lynn\’s personal accomplishments include serving as an officer for the Texas Drill Team Director Association and the Drill Team Directors of America, where she was selected as a top ten director in the nation ten years in a row. She is a lifetime member of the Texas PTA and was honored as Distinguished Faculty for the GHS Hall of Fame in 2022. During her career as Fillies Director she coached approximately 1500 Fillies, 500 Honor Guard, 500 Belles and hundreds of private dance one students. She designed the current Fillies logo and developed and instilled the motto \”Once a Fillie, always a Fillie.\” Her dedication to detail and her loyalty and kindness earned her the respect of her students as she prepared them for life.
