2025 Honorees Announced

The GCISD Walk of Honor Committee is proud to announce the 2025 honorees of the GCISD Walk of Honor. These two individuals have served the District with honor, distinction, and service and will be honored permanently with plaques at Mustang Panther Stadium.

 

Walt Milner

Walt Milner was born in Atlanta, Georgia before moving to Chicago, Illinois where he met his wife Carol in high school. After attending the University of Illinois, he served as Captain in the US Army. In 1976, he and his wife were transferred to Texas, and they settled in the community of Colleyville. He worked for the First National Bank of Grapevine as a Vice President and eventually went to work as a financial planner for Southwest Securities. His daughters attended Grapevine High School, and his wife worked as an aide at both Cannon Elementary and Bear Creek Elementary. Walt was active in his community as President of the Lion’s Club, Trustee for Grapevine Memorial Hospital, Board member of the Community Awareness Council, President of Grapevine Rotary, District Governor for Rotary District 5790, and a leader of various boards and committees at First Methodist Church in Grapevine. In 1982, he was elected to the Grapevine Colleyville School Board and was President of the Board from 1984-1992. During his tenure, he led the Bond Steering Committee which spearheaded the construction of many current GCISD buildings. He was also a director for the Excellence in Education Foundation, which provided teachers with opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills. He served on the GCISD Substance Abuse Committee and was involved in Teen Court and Special Olympics. Walt also became involved in Tarrant County College and their Transitional Skills Program, which gives special needs students in the local community a place to further their education after high school. Walt continues to be involved in this community that he cherishes so dearly. Many have called Walt their mentor, and he loves nothing more than continuing to volunteer and serve.

 

Joe Mickey Deupree

After growing up in Oklahoma and attending Oklahoma A&M University, Joe M. Deupree served in the Navy before moving to Colleyville with his wife, Jane, in 1966. He still lives in the home he built for his family on Montclair Drive. He worked for the FAA from 1958 – 1985 and served as a consultant for the FAA in Washington DC from 1985 – 1997. Upon moving to Colleyville, Joe immediately became involved in the community and the schools. He served as Chairman of the Colleyville Planning and Zoning Commission, was a member of the Advisory Council for Community Education, and was a long time Lion’s Club member. He was active as a deacon and teacher in his church, and in 2007, was voted Citizen of the Year by the Colleyville Chamber of Commerce. Regarding GCISD, Joe was active in the Colleyville PTA and served as President in the late sixties. He was elected to the Grapevine School Board in 1975, and was integral in changing the name of the school district to Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District to include his beloved community. He served on the GCISD School Board until 1984, and served as President during his third term. Joe has always stressed the importance of education to his family and friends and continues to be active in his community, where he has considered it a privilege and a blessing to live and serve for over 50 years.
